4 Tips to Freshen Up Your Bedding

Layer for a Luxurious Look

It’s an undeniable fact that having the perfect layers on your bed makes it look extra luxurious. Getting that luxurious look doesn’t have to be expensive — splurge on the duvet cover and mix in other less expensive accents to get that custom look. In this set-up, I’ve got the sheets, a blanket, a quilt, the duvet, a throw, and of course all the pillows (more on those later).

Tell a Color Story

When choosing your bedding, instead of trying to make everything “match,” try telling a color story. For this, I fell in love with the buffalo check duvet cover and used it as the inspiration for what I’m calling my “creamy contrast” color story. I mixed creamy neutrals with darker tones to tie it all together.

Mix Textures & Patterns

Stripes with buffalo check? Wovens with linens? Give it a shot! Using a variety of textures creates visual interest, but also keeps your bed feeling cozy. Remember — you actually want to use your bedding! Don’t be afraid to mix patterns either. Your bed is like a giant canvas, so try some different patterns to really make it pop.

Vary Pillow Proportions

First of all, never shy away from the pillows! I have nine pillows on my bed in this photo (11 if you count the two on the bench). Do most of them end up on the floor while we sleep? Sure. Do they look gorgeous when the bed is made? ABSOLUTELY. Make sure to include a mix of pillow sizes to vary the pillow proportions. Bed pillows, square pillows, lumbar pillows, and you can even throw in some pillows in funky shapes!
