Major Mantle Makeover

While most people use the change of seasons for the opportunity for a fresh new look, changing out a mantle doesn’t have to be just a seasonal occurrence! Every year after the Christmas decor comes down, I am faced with the challenge of giving our kitchen mantle a facelift. And it’s SO IMPORTANT, because with these cold KC temps we’ve been having, my fireplace is getting a LOT of attention.

Challenge accepted!

Break the Pattern!

This year, I wanted to go a completely different direction than I have in years past. I ditched the same ole same ole symmetrical look that I've been giving this mantle year after year! This area in our home sees a lot of faces daily, so it needs to be special!

I started by taking down the center mirror and the two wrought iron architectural details that flank the sides of it. Those babies had been up for years and it was time to retire them. I still love the vintage mirror so I decided that it needed to stay and be part of the new look! I found it years ago at a fun vintage store in the West Bottoms in Kansas City. If you live nearby in KC and love vintage find as much as I do, you have to make some time to visit the West Bottoms and all it has to offer! I've also linked similar mirrors below.

Use Nontraditional Accessories

I truly love cutting boards that look vintage and old. I have had these for quite some time, so I decided that they could spend their time up on the kitchen mantle for a new fresh look! Cutting boards go in the kitchen, right? Mine are from Nell Hills from a while ago, but I've linked similar ones in the "shop my post" section at the bottom of this post!

Mix Up Your Heights

I have been eyeing these tall skinny taper candle sticks at target for a while now, but I just wasn't sure where to put them in our home! I love to give mantles some variating height, so I figured these new candle sticks would do the trick!  I topped both of them off with a battery operated flicker taper candle, available at Target (linked below!)

Keep the Ambiance

These awesome lantern lights have been on of my favorite lighting options in our home for years so I knew they had to stay because I love them and they provide a sweet glow at night!!

So there you have it! A fresh new look to take is through the next few seasons! It will be easy to switch a few things out to give this mantel a new look from time to time! You can shop everything I've used below to create a similar look in your home! (I've had some of this stuff for a while, so I've linked similar items to those that are no longer available online!)

So give it a try! Why not try a mantle makeover in your home!

Some more Style & Grace Shiplap

Our shiplap wall is Molly Approved!

Since we've remodeled the kitchen, we also updated the area that once held a traditional butler's pantry. I'm in love with our decision to remove all of the original built-ins on this wall. We created a one-of-a-kind storage wall that gives me more than enough space to showcase some of my favorite things!

Spring Succulents

Hello Beautiful!

I have been eyeing this gorgeous white ceramic bowl at Home Goods for quite some time, but I never had the right use for it.

UNTIL I was in the garden section at Home Depot and came across these fabulous live succulents for only $25! This picture can be deceiving because it is a an enormous bowl! I just love the way it looks in our kitchen eating area!

Pray for me that I can keep it alive! Do any have you have tips on how to keep a succulent going?

Guest Blogger for RE:

It was an honor to be asked by Restoration Emporium to do a guest blog spot! When I shop at RE: there are so many options, so many unique finds. So naturally when I came across this wall unit from Magnolia Home, I was smitten! The possibilities were endless! How would I use this piece first?

One thing was for sure, I absolutely 100% knew I was going to use it in our newly remodeled kitchen!  I have been collecting some fun and special things for the last few months to feature in our renovated space! I have a small wall that is perfect for displaying this fun piece!

Originally I was thinking I would store extra hand towels in it but then I also came across this cement bunny and I knew immediately that the two would be perfectly paired together! I just needed the perfect set of old books to raise the bunny up so he could peek over the edge! Next, I decided to add some spring greenery because, why not? Lord knows our home could use a little spring sprucing up as we anxiously await warmer weather! I think this piece will be fun, yet functional... allowing me to feature some holiday decor from time to time!

The point is, don't take your decorating too seriously! Don't overthink it so much! The perfect accessories and key pieces are typically right in front of you when you walk through the doors at Restoration Emporium!

Refreshing our home with fun and unique finds is a must on my monthly to do list. I love finding accessories that I can move from room to room always expressing a different design look in all areas of our home!

Style your home with relevant and relatable items and you will win every time!

Happy Styling!
