Major Mantle Makeover

While most people use the change of seasons for the opportunity for a fresh new look, changing out a mantle doesn’t have to be just a seasonal occurrence! Every year after the Christmas decor comes down, I am faced with the challenge of giving our kitchen mantle a facelift. And it’s SO IMPORTANT, because with these cold KC temps we’ve been having, my fireplace is getting a LOT of attention.

Challenge accepted!

Break the Pattern!

This year, I wanted to go a completely different direction than I have in years past. I ditched the same ole same ole symmetrical look that I've been giving this mantle year after year! This area in our home sees a lot of faces daily, so it needs to be special!

I started by taking down the center mirror and the two wrought iron architectural details that flank the sides of it. Those babies had been up for years and it was time to retire them. I still love the vintage mirror so I decided that it needed to stay and be part of the new look! I found it years ago at a fun vintage store in the West Bottoms in Kansas City. If you live nearby in KC and love vintage find as much as I do, you have to make some time to visit the West Bottoms and all it has to offer! I've also linked similar mirrors below.

Use Nontraditional Accessories

I truly love cutting boards that look vintage and old. I have had these for quite some time, so I decided that they could spend their time up on the kitchen mantle for a new fresh look! Cutting boards go in the kitchen, right? Mine are from Nell Hills from a while ago, but I've linked similar ones in the "shop my post" section at the bottom of this post!

Mix Up Your Heights

I have been eyeing these tall skinny taper candle sticks at target for a while now, but I just wasn't sure where to put them in our home! I love to give mantles some variating height, so I figured these new candle sticks would do the trick!  I topped both of them off with a battery operated flicker taper candle, available at Target (linked below!)

Keep the Ambiance

These awesome lantern lights have been on of my favorite lighting options in our home for years so I knew they had to stay because I love them and they provide a sweet glow at night!!

So there you have it! A fresh new look to take is through the next few seasons! It will be easy to switch a few things out to give this mantel a new look from time to time! You can shop everything I've used below to create a similar look in your home! (I've had some of this stuff for a while, so I've linked similar items to those that are no longer available online!)

So give it a try! Why not try a mantle makeover in your home!

Upstairs Hallway Gets and Upgrade!

Okay, remember that day when I said I was so ready for Fall? Well, she came in like a tornado today and she was CHILLY!

The crisp air got me motivated to do some layering in our upstairs hallway to make it feel a bit cozier. We've never had any decor in front of this window, and we've lived here for 13 years!

I found this sweet little bench from Home Goods. It's the perfect piece to make what was once plain an ordinary into something extraordinary.

I'm so glad we finally made the change (and actually kind of shocked I hadn't decorated this space before!)

Inspiration is everywhere, you just have to look for it!

A Style & Grace Baby Shower

I hosted a baby shower for our sweet niece today! She was 3 years old when she was in our wedding, and now she's married and preggy with her first baby! I couldn't have been happier to host a shower for her today. She has a heart of gold and it was so fun to celebrate her and her new little one who will be here soon!

Fall is here!

It's FINALLY fall here in Kansas City! I've already started to add autumn touches to our house, and I can't wait to keep sharing all of my fun fall finds with you. If only Kansas City would take the hint and cool off a bit so it actually FEELS like fall!

I'm especially loving the handmade Kansas City creation in our newly renovated basement! I bought it from a local place called Restoration Emporium here in KC. It's so fun and I knew I had to have it for our new basement.

Now, who wants a pumpkin spice latte?

We've got a new space!

Here's a look at what used to be my home office! This sweet little space sits right off our master bedroom. I got a wild hair to take over the true home office on our main level and politely asked the handy hubs to "ease on down the road" to our basement (once it's ready)! He didn't mind thought, because that's just who he is. I think he's a keeper!

We painted the cabinets to give them an updated look, added a rug and a few chairs and voila! A perfect space to hang!

Stay tuned for a look at my new office and our updated basement!
