Major Mantle Makeover

While most people use the change of seasons for the opportunity for a fresh new look, changing out a mantle doesn’t have to be just a seasonal occurrence! Every year after the Christmas decor comes down, I am faced with the challenge of giving our kitchen mantle a facelift. And it’s SO IMPORTANT, because with these cold KC temps we’ve been having, my fireplace is getting a LOT of attention.

Challenge accepted!

Break the Pattern!

This year, I wanted to go a completely different direction than I have in years past. I ditched the same ole same ole symmetrical look that I've been giving this mantle year after year! This area in our home sees a lot of faces daily, so it needs to be special!

I started by taking down the center mirror and the two wrought iron architectural details that flank the sides of it. Those babies had been up for years and it was time to retire them. I still love the vintage mirror so I decided that it needed to stay and be part of the new look! I found it years ago at a fun vintage store in the West Bottoms in Kansas City. If you live nearby in KC and love vintage find as much as I do, you have to make some time to visit the West Bottoms and all it has to offer! I've also linked similar mirrors below.

Use Nontraditional Accessories

I truly love cutting boards that look vintage and old. I have had these for quite some time, so I decided that they could spend their time up on the kitchen mantle for a new fresh look! Cutting boards go in the kitchen, right? Mine are from Nell Hills from a while ago, but I've linked similar ones in the "shop my post" section at the bottom of this post!

Mix Up Your Heights

I have been eyeing these tall skinny taper candle sticks at target for a while now, but I just wasn't sure where to put them in our home! I love to give mantles some variating height, so I figured these new candle sticks would do the trick!  I topped both of them off with a battery operated flicker taper candle, available at Target (linked below!)

Keep the Ambiance

These awesome lantern lights have been on of my favorite lighting options in our home for years so I knew they had to stay because I love them and they provide a sweet glow at night!!

So there you have it! A fresh new look to take is through the next few seasons! It will be easy to switch a few things out to give this mantel a new look from time to time! You can shop everything I've used below to create a similar look in your home! (I've had some of this stuff for a while, so I've linked similar items to those that are no longer available online!)

So give it a try! Why not try a mantle makeover in your home!

Our Annual Holiday Party 2016

Today is the day!

Every year, we host a big holiday party for our friends. We are looking forward to spending the evening with everyone! I snagged this brand new porch decoration and I think it's the perfect festive touch for tonight. Every year I try to add another special element to our Christmas decor, and this giant "Merry" sign is perfect. I knew the minute I saw it, I had to have it!

We love to throw this party every year to host our friends who we love so dearly. Every year, people come into our home to celebrate the season and during that time I always realize how fortunate I am to have wonderful friends and family with whom to spend the holidays. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Every year we give a small party favor to our guests. This year, it was these sweet little mason jars filled with stovetop potpourri! It's an awesome and easy way to make your loved ones' homes smell like the holidays. Tis' the season!

Pretty Plaids!

Loving my plaid throws from Home Goods! These babies are so versatile! I can move them from room to room and instantly change up the space! Wishing you all a wonderful Saturday doing what you love!

Wish us luck, I'm in St Louis for a cheer competition with my youngest and we came to win!

Baby It's Cold Outside

Today we experienced one of the prettiest snow falls I have seen in a while! It was that beautiful blend of big and flaky snowflakes mixed with a sense of calm and belonging. It was a good day to stay at home and get some much needed work done, but not before I took a minute to run out and capture this perfect moment!

What are some of your favorite snowy-weather activities? Do you like to get outside, or are you more of a "snuggle up inside" kind of person?
